How Disadvantaged Learners are Persevering Through the Pandemic

During a time of chaos across our country, many families were looking forward to the return of school. With that now wavering, many North Texas families are becoming resourceful, turning to the help of expensive businesses and specialists to help their children continue reading and to keep them from falling behind.
For those with the finances available, services are within reach. But what happens for those who can’t afford the posh services others can? Are these students left to fall through the cracks of society and fall further behind as readers and learners? The answer can be found at local nonprofit Literacy United.
Literacy United is a nonprofit reading clinic in Fort Worth. This clinic strives to reach economically disadvantaged children and teens who struggle with reading and math. With a montage of services offered, they endeavor to guide our disadvantaged youth on a path to success.
At Literacy United, children and teens work with highly-trained reading specialists that offer tailored and specific instruction to meet the needs of their students. In fact, Literacy United boasts that the results of their program have been “dramatically positive and academically significant,” showing that their students, “typically improve their reading level at twice the rate of children not receiving the same support.”
Many north Texas families have found educational relief with Literacy United. Their staff has worked diligently, consistently, and unwaveringly to stay up-to-date with state and local health organizations to stay open, safe, and learning.
